This is the alebrije that Pedro Linares gave to Frida and Diego when in a meeting the couple was captivated by the beauty of the figure. The handicraft is made of wire and cardboard covered with bright colors and mottled motifs that extend along the animal’s back. Far from being an inherent figure, Don Alebrije comes alive at night and travels through the states of Mexico pausing over the most beautiful corners of the country. Alebrije grew up in an environment of artists who yearned for freedom, and that is why his instinct listened to the streets, the sea, the valleys calling him to explore. In one of his expeditions, Don Alebrije flew to Altos de Chiapas several decades ago and decided that this would be his new home. At night he no longer travels, but he devotes himself to leading the dreams of the children of the region, to whom he tells his adventures.
